The School of Education at Central China Normal University (CCNU) has a long history, which grew out of Department of Education in Huazhong University in 1924. In 1952, the Education departments of Huazhong University, National Hubei Institute of Education, Zhongyuan University and several other institutions were merged into the School of Education, which was renamed as the Department of Education in 1985. In 1993, School of Education and Science was found. In 2005, School of Education is jointly established by Department of Education and School of Education and Science. Currently in School of Education, there are 750 undergraduate students, 519 full time master and doctoral students, and 80 internationa1 students from Germany, Russia, Chile, Nigeria, Myanmar, etc.
There are three undergraduate programs at our school: Education, Early Childhood Education and Special Education. The Education program has been honored as the distinguished program of Hubei province. It is also granted by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance as the ‘Program with Distinctive Features at the National Level’. Two forms of Early Childhood Education programs are provided: free normal education program and China-Australia Cooperation Program. The China-Australia cooperated schooling-running project with Roya1 Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) is the first international undergraduate program in Early Childhood Education of China. Special Education is a burgeoning field, which has developed rapidly in recent years.
Currently our school offers 12 master programs in Principles of Education, Curriculum and Teaching, Economics of Education, History of Education, Comparative Education, Early Childhood Education (academic degree and professional degree), Higher Education, Special Education, Youth Organization and Thoughts, Primary Education and Educational Administration. For those who are willing to pursue a doctoral degree, we offer 8 doctoral programs in Principles of Education, Curriculum and Teaching, Economics of Education, History of Education, Comparative Education, Early Childhood Education, Higher Education and Special Education.
